Sometimes people have difficulty flossing. An individual that has limited dexterity, or arthritis, cannot use their fingers properly to use floss. There are devices that have the floss on a handle so that they only have to grasp the handle. These are sometimes difficult to use as well.

Another option to consider is a water flosser. This is a device that sprays a stream of water in between the teeth to remove the plaque and bacteria. Different types of this product exist. Some plug into the wall and can be used at the bathroom sink and others are battery powered and can be used in the shower. Both do an efficient job. Regardless of the device chosen such as dental floss or water flosser, both will help to eliminate the bacteria that can lead to bad breath, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.

Proper flossing or using an oral irrigator can improve your dental health dramatically. If you haven't done either one of these in a while, there might be a red tinge of blood. This indicates that your gums are slightly inflamed and need to be cleaned more regularly. With a regular regimen, this red tinge should go away.
